Our First Bash Idea: Party Start-up Business Joy and Pain

It all started with a fantastic lunch in the city, helped with a fabulous adult beverage. We had been discussing business ideas for several years but nothing quite stuck until Dina had the idea for Bash in a Box. It was fantastic right from the start. The ideas kept coming faster than we could write them down and as cliché as it sounds they all went on these small cocktail napkins.

I like the idea because it was something I would buy for myself and because I hadn’t seen anything like it online. You see there are really great places to get party supplies for kids parties. The kid parties come in all price points and all levels of difficulty. But for adults the options are more limited. Mostly you see high end catered options or blogs that are heavy on crafts and cooking. Neither of these options were a good fit for me.

So the idea we created that afternoon was to fill the gap and provide party boxes for adults in a mid-range price that require minimal crafts and minimal cooking. I wanted to find my PARTY JOY!

On that afternoon we had energy and couldn't wait to get started. Before we finished lunch we decided on the Tea Bash as the first party for Bash in a Box.

Well the weeks went by - there were forms to fill out, business fees to pay. Then there was bringing the concept to life and sourcing all the box content. Neither one of us had started a business before so there was a lot to learn -- there still is. Four months after that lunch were are finally prepping for the first Bash-in-a-Box party – our Tea Bash!

In this blog I will tell you our business learning curve, detail the party planning process, provide tips for party planning and have a few guest bloggers to provide alternate points of view.

I hope you will find these topics interesting and inspire you to find if not your passion, then the joy of entertaining.
