I have been read Sean Ogle's blog and one of the things he recommends is creating a bucket list and posting it in your blog to keep you accountable. He suggests including some short term attainable items as well as longer term, less attainable items to give yourself some scope and room to grow. At first I didn't see the applicability because - well this is party blog - but as I thought more and more about it I came to the conclusion that I really do have some party goals or wishes. So here are my top 5 party wishes, in no particular order. What are yours? I know you have at least one.
For musical inspiration: I'm Coming Out, by Diana Ross

Party Wish #1: Dance "like no one is watching"- Seems easy enough but I had at least two opportunities in the last 2 months and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I don't dance well, I have no rhythm and I am out of shape enough that not one wants to see me shake my booty ;) Still, I see others dancing and I want to. I want to feel the music and joy -enough said.
Party Wish #2: Invite guests over on the spur of the moment for dinner or drinks. No planning, no cleaning, just inviting. I am a worrier and a planner so this will be very challenging. A few times I made it seem like I invited people over spontaneously, but really I planned all week and made a special trip to the store.

Party Wish #3: Have a dinner party in the middle of the week. I am usually so busy with work and my son's activities that I can't even conceive of the idea of having a party of any kind on a weekday, especially not a dinner party. It sure would be nice though to really enjoy a midweek meal with friends. The Reluctant Entertainer actually gave me this idea. Her recent blog about the joys of sharing a casual meal make it sound possible and
rewarding. Party Wish #4: Host a large outdoor party. Small indoor parties are usually my preference because I don't like loud noises/music or crowds or the messiness of outdoor entertaining. But my husband loves to be outside and loves having lots of friends over. Having a large pool party or something similar would make him happy and as a consequence make me happy. Plus I think the cleanup will be easier and I won't have to worry about spills on my carpet. A small party just won't cut it, this has to be a big blow out. My challenge will be to make it all happen and not have a migraine before during or after due the stress I put on myself.

Party Wish #5: Invite people I don't know well to a party at my house. Don't laugh. I know I have been to many parties where I don't know any or most of the people there. I am not talking about that. I am talking about inviting people I know casually, like co-workers or friends of friends. You might ask, how hard that can be? Don't forget I am the "Reluctant Hostess" for a reason. One of the reasons is that I get nervous about being judged. I really stress out about how the house looks - Are the wall clean? Are the pillows frayed? Do the indoor plants look like they are dying? My husband laughs at me because even if I have relatives visit I go through at least a week of prep. Intellectually I know that no one cares our probably even thinks about these things. I know in my head that people are thinking about themselves, their concerns, their house, their dirty walls ;) But in my gut somewhere I feel really bad that everything isn't "perfect". Like I have failed. That feeling in my gut travels to my shoulders, my neck and eventually I get a headache to go with that sour stomach. Yeah I am reluctant - but I don't want to be. I want to invite people into my world without fear or stress and ENJOY my blessing and friendship. That's my party bucket list. What's yours? Drop me a line and let me know your party bucket list or any bucket list you have. Cheers!
