Zen Bash - Party Planning

We started with a vague idea that we should create a party with "wish paper" as a central theme. It seemed like a good idea to call it Zen Bash since the traditional Chinese new year is a bit out of our cultural experience. But that was it and it sounded hard to me to create a Zen party when Zen and Party feel like opposites plus I am not all that touchy feely. But I like a challenge and my day job conveniently sent me to the 4 Seasons in St. Louis for inspiration – though not intentionally. Now perhaps the 4 Season anywhere is great but I don't usually travel or stay at the 4 Seasons so this was a nice treat for me. The spa there was VERY Zen and relaxing -- even in the gray days of November. At the spa they had Organic Spa Magazine and between the tranquil warm soak and the magazine I was very inspired to move forward with the Zen Bash.
As if the world were falling into sync I then heard this piece on the radio about how adults color to relax - what a concept? I'd never thought of that but it sounded cool.
Tick-tock time elapsed as we worked on the business end of Bash in a Box and the other Bashes. I ordered lots of samples for us to try and searched the web for ideas. Lucky for us there isn't much out there in the way of a consolidated Zen party. That didn't stop me from testing out a subscription to Yuzen a very thoughtful spa product box and a then another subscription a more eclectic gift box with snacks, meditations and lovely small gifts
At that point I had a lot of bits and pieces, not a consolidated executable party. So to bring Dina in on the planning and to inspire ourselves -- indulgent? -- we booked a lovely planning session at a local tea house that provides foot soaks and foot messages along with tea. Here is the rustic tea pots they used to serve us. We tried a flight of tea and got to sample 3 different tea varieties/blends.

It was very relaxing. As we discussed the party planning Dina brought order and simplicity to my long list of ideas and concerns. We were now ready to move forward in planning the Zen Bash. I am convinced we can pull off a wonderful Zen party that will perfectly align relaxation, inspiration and friendship – while letting the Hostess decide on the right amount of touchy feely. Are you excited to try it too?
The next step is the test party. I’ll let you know how it goes ASAP.
P.S. No tea will be served at the Zen bash because we didn’t want to compete directly with the Tea Bash but we definitely want to include a Zen Tea Bash in the future.
Cheers!
